..:: About Us ::..

Burgundy Bay is a small farm nestled in the south west sector of Medina, Ohio (South of Cleveland and North of Columbus). For the past 20 years, our passion has been for breeding and showing Arabian, Half-Arabian and National Show Horses.

After being introduced to the world of breeding Arabian horses, we purchased our stallion Baskaro (Bask-Tu x Aroya) to breed to our Arabian mares. Baskaro was a magnificent Bask grandson, who while we had the pleasure of owning him , won Championships in Halter, Western Pleasure and Native Costume. In loving memory, Bask we miss you.

The 1986 Buckeye Horse Show was the first stepping stone to my horse showing future, competing with Rose of Easter and ZFI Royal Victory. To be continued with several futurity champions, championship high point awards and horse of the year honors.

One filly in particular, Strikin Rezemblanz “Nikki” was purchased from Fairland Hills Farms in 1994 and accelerated a career competing in halter to be named the 1997 AHSA Region 14 Half Arabian Halter Horse of the Year.

In 2003, our interests were directed towards a stunning colt, Gaultier (Ganges x Lily Marlaina) who was purchased from Graci Arabians. Competing in amateur and open halter as a yearling and two year old, he is presently continuing his career as an amateur western pleasure gelding.

With numerous halter achievements, the next chapter is being written “Under Saddle”. FWF Burn Baby Burn was purchased from Penny Watkins to pursue our interests in the Sport Horse ring and Hunter competitions. Look for us in the show ring in 2008.

Do you believe in love at first sight? The day we stopped in at Bay Star Arabians and the stall door opened, Mattawine became our new “diamond”. In 2007, Mattie had an awesome colt by BSA Natasi. She is currently in foal to Navajo Moun due to foal in March 2008.

To be continued . . .

Burgundy Bay Racing (…the other horsepower at the Farm)

If you know Roger, you know his love for “horsepower”, which comes in the form of two wheels, spokes, an engine, handlebars….and her name is ROTAX by Honda. In his eyes, she has an outstanding pedigree.

On October 9, 2005 our perfect world was rocked by a phone call from the police department in Lima, Ohio stating that my husband, Roger, was injured while racing his motorcycle. After being life-flighted to Akron City Hospital and assessed, we were told that he burst fractured his L3 vertebrate and severed parts of his spinal cord – virtually that he would have no use of anything from his waist down. This was absolutely devastating news to all of us.

Well if you know Roger, he is NOT a patient person and if he wants something, he’s going to go for it. With his strong attitude, he reminds me of the Mustang in the movie “Hidalgo” with his powerful endurance. Today, over two years later, he has full use of everything above his knees. He is walking with leg braces and arm crutches. His dream is to ride in the Dirt Track Senior 60 & Over Class…I believe he will – he’s got less than 3 years to go!

Your thinking by now, how can she ever let him get on a bike again, can you imagine someone telling you that you could never ride or show a horse again?

At Burgundy Bay, we believe a strong positive attitude is everything!
